Acrylic adhesive is a kind of acrylic polymer prepared from different types of acrylate monomers, such as 2-Ethylhexyl acrylate and butyl acrylate, using semi-continuous emulsion and solution polymerizations. The bond forms because the adhesive is soft enough to wet the adherent. The joint has strength because the adhesive is hard enough to resist flow when a stress is applied to the joint. Once the adhesive and the substrate bond, there are also molecular interactions, such as van der Waals forces, involved in the bonding, which mainly contribute to the final bond strength.

Acrylic adhesive is also a good alternative solution for some rubber-based adhesive applications. Compared with the same application, a disadvantage of rubber adhesive is that the price is relatively higher than that of acrylic glue. Another drawback is that the rubber will deteriorate quickly in outdoor applications. With the development of material technology, the acrylic adhesive is an adhesive with weather resistance ability and better performance but low cost.
